In great form at Manchester City, Foden is voted best player of the year in England by journalists

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden received this Friday the best player of the year award in England, given by Football Writers’ Association (Football Journalists Association of England).

To win the award, the Englishman beat midfielders Declan Rice, from Arsenal, and Rodri, his teammate, who took second and third place, respectively. Martin Odegaard (Arsenal), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) and Cole Palmer (Chelsea) complete the top 6. In total, Foden received 42% of the votes.

During the evaluation period, the midfielder played 50 matches, scored 24 goals and distributed ten assists. Phil expressed his happiness at winning the award.

“Being named Footballer of the Year by the English Football Journalists’ Association is a huge honour. I’m very, very happy to receive this award but I wouldn’t have done it without the help of my team-mates. We have a very special squad of players at City and I have the privilege of being part of that group,” he told Football Writers’ Association.

Foden has the opportunity to further crown his season and win the English Championship and FA Cup titles.

Manchester City occupies second place in the Premier League, with 79 points, but with one game less than leaders Arsenal, who have 80 points. The Citizens face Wolverhampton this Saturday, at 1:30 pm (Brasília time), at the Etihad Stadium.

Furthermore, City will play in the FA Cup final on May 25th, at 11am, against Manchester United, at Wembley.

“Now I’m focused on trying to finish the season as strong as possible and trying to help City win more trophies,” said Phil Foden.
