América, by André Jardine, receives a cash prize as the best team in Mexico

The board of directors of América de México is celebrating an important extra amount of money for its coffers. The team led by the coach André Jardine (former São Paulo and Brazilian Olympic team) will earn US$ 1 million (around R$ 5.1 million) after being considered the best of the season in the country.

América is the current national champion. On top of that, the victory over Puebla in the last round of Liga MX by 2-1 away from home guaranteed the best campaign in the first phase for the second tournament in a row and the advantage of deciding the Liguilla at home.

Furthermore, he set a new record for points in the same season. In the Apertura tournament, América reached the mark of 40 points in 17 rounds, which later culminated in the League title. For the Clausura, which from now on enters its knockout phase, Jardine’s team scored 35 points, and established a new record for América: with 75 points in a complete season, adding up the Apertura and Clausura Tournaments, the current team surpassed the campaigns of the 22/23 seasons with Fernando Ortiz and 02/03 with Mario Carrillo and Manuel Lapuente, with 72 points.

This Tuesday, América faces Pachuca and seeks a place in the Concacaf Champions League final. In the first game, there was a 1-1 draw.
