The head of the RPL Alaev wanted to ban players with a criminal record from playing in the league
The President of the Russian Premier League (RPL) Alexander Alaev wanted to introduce a ban on players with a criminal record from playing in the league. His words are quoted by RB Sport.
The functionary noted that the corresponding tool will be developed jointly with the Russian Football Union (RFU). “He’s gone now, let us finish the season. This is a delicate question – whether we recognize the jurisdiction or not, what is the punishment? Our colleagues in the RPL and RFU are experienced, we will choose an algorithm,” said Alaev.
On February 29, the Dutch forward of Spartak Moscow, Quincy Promes, was detained at border control at Dubai airport for being involved in an accident and leaving the scene. Two weeks later, the football player was arrested at the request of the Dutch prosecutor’s office for possible further extradition.
On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes in absentia to six years in prison for drug smuggling. In the summer of 2023, he received 18 months in prison in his homeland for attacking his brother with a knife. After that, the forward played in the RPL.
