SwipeTo.pl was supposed to be a competitive website for portals such as Vibez. It was intended to attract young readers and influencers. The previous TVP authorities spent PLN 35 million on the portal. There are seven people left from the 60-person editorial staff of Telewizja Polska.

The SwipeTo.pl portal was created in 2022 and operated for less than two years. The website was a project of the PiS era, which was intended to attract young readers from the “Z” and “Y” generations. The website’s promotional clip was directed by Mac Adamczak, who worked with Mata, and TVP authorities assured that “many creators and influencers recognized in the world of pop culture were involved in the creation of the website.”

And indeed. Among the famous names, SwipeTo.pl was co-created by rapper Eldo and Tytus Hołdys, son of Zbigniew Hołdys. The creators of the popular podcast Podcastex – Bartek Przybyszewski and Mateusz Witkowski – rejected the job offer at TVP.

“We are a new medium. A medium despite divisions. Because we don’t care which side you are on – on the right, on the left, on both or neither side,” the website advertised. However, even these words and the rather modern and well-thought-out layout did not help.

According to press.pl, the number of visits in the last period of operation of SwipeTo.pl did not exceed 5.5 thousand per month. In turn, in the entire year 2023, only 660,000 users accessed the website. This result is many times lower than that of average regional news portals.

The Supreme Audit Office notes that the costs of maintaining the website until the end of May 2023 amounted to PLN 21.5 million. People employed to run the portal’s social networking sites received a total remuneration of PLN 75,000. In total, the former TVP authorities spent PLN 35 million on the service, says TVP liquidator Daniel Gorgosz.

– The cost was PLN 35 million, and the end result is nothing. Money was thrown away! Do you know where the editorial staff of this website worked? In a specially rented premises in Hala Koszyki. They couldn’t do it in the buildings at ul. Woronicza, even though we have 15 hectares at our disposal here, because apparently young people were ashamed of television. No one took into account the costs, because it was known that compensation would come every year anyway, commented Gorgosz.

Currently, the SwipeTo.pl domain is for sale, and only seven of the 60-person editorial team of Telewizja Polska remain.
