Basketball player Greiner said she felt less than human in prison
American basketball player Greiner spoke about her stay in a Russian prison. Inside the Games writes about this.
“There was a huge blood stain on the mattress in the cell. I had no soap or toilet paper. At that moment I felt less than human,” said the basketball player from the USA.
Greiner, found guilty in Russia of drug smuggling, was exchanged on December 8, 2022 for Russian Viktor But, convicted in the United States. She was sentenced to nine years in a general regime colony and spent ten months in prison.
The basketball player was detained at Moscow Sheremetyevo airport on February 17, 2022. Several vapes containing illegal cannabis oil were found in her luggage.
After Greiner’s release, it became known that the basketball player was facing psychological problems. The Phoenix Mercury, where she plays, allowed Greiner to sit out matches until she felt ready to play again.
