USADA was outraged by WADA’s decision on Chinese swimmers caught doping
The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) issued a statement regarding the situation with 23 swimmers from China caught for doping. It is published on the organization’s website.
USADA has called on governments and the sports movement to review the activities of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). “Their willingness to turn a blind eye to this and, as we learned yesterday, to claim that the organization will do it again and again is another stab in the back to clean athletes,” USADA was outraged.
The American side also called for consideration of the issue of sanctions against the Chinese convicted of doping. “Efforts to achieve fairness must be undertaken before the Paris Games, as it would be unfair for clean athletes to compete against those whose positive doping tests were suppressed,” USADA said.
On April 20, it was reported that 23 Chinese swimmers were caught doping with trimetazidine and were allowed to participate in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. It was clarified that the Chinese Anti-Doping Agency conducted an investigation during which it was determined that traces of the drug were found in the kitchen of the hotel where the athletes stayed during the competition. WADA explained that they had no reason to doubt the objectivity of the Chinese side’s conclusions and punish the athletes.
