After controversy between Gundogan and Araújo, Sergi Roberto guarantees that the Barcelona squad is united

Right-back Sergi Roberto guaranteed this Friday that there is no problem in the Barcelona dressing room. The Spaniard refers to the criticism made by İlkay Gundogan regarding the expulsion of Ronald Araújo in the Catalan club’s Champions League elimination to PSG.

“The statements have been more of an external noise than a problem inside the dressing room. We are very united. What Gundogan did was explain what happened in the match, but without any intention of blaming anyone. Everyone wants to win and, as long as the Gundogan arrived, what he has done in the dressing room is helping the team to be better. Don’t look for problems where there are none, the team is very united”, he said in an interview with Movistar.

Ronald Araújo received a red card after fouling Barcola, who was heading towards the goal. At that moment, Barcelona was winning 1-0 against Paris Saint-Germain in the return game of the Champions League, at the Estádio Olímpico Lluís Companys, and had an advantage on the aggregate score (4-2). However, after the expulsion, the Spanish club deteriorated drastically and turned the match around, which ended 4-1 for the French.

After the game, Gundogan criticized his teammate and pointed to the expulsion as a key factor in the elimination. Ronald Araújo responded to the Turkish midfielder and stated that he had “codes and values”.

Despite this, Sergi Roberto assured that the dressing room is at peace and continues to prepare for the match against Real Madrid in the Spanish Championship. El Clásico will be held this Sunday, at 4pm (Brasília time), at the Santiago Bernabéu.

“It has been talked about, of course, mainly because of the external noise. To clarify, there is no problem between anyone. We are a family. The problem is that after an elimination there is always noise, and even more so at this club. Gundogan did not speak badly intentions. I read that the club is divided… Far from it. We are ready for Sunday and we are ready to fight for it as if it were a final”, he concluded.
