Champions semi-finals will not feature English teams after almost four years

This Wednesday (17), Arsenal lost to Bayern Munich and City lost on penalties to Real Madrid. The elimination of the two English teams in the Champions League marked a curious fact. Since the 20/21 season, at least one team from England has been present in the Champions League semi-finals, which will not happen again in 2024.

The last time the Champions League semi-finals did not feature at least one Premier League club was in the 19/20 season, when Lyon, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Red Bull Leipzig were among the top four. On that occasion, PSG eliminated Leipzig 3-0, guaranteeing a place in the final. In the other match, Bayern applied the same score against Lyon. In the big decision, the Germans won with a goal from Coman.

As of this final, at least one English team was present at this stage of the Champions League. Manchester City was among the top four in every season after 19/20, but only became champion last year against Inter Milan.

The Champions League semi-finals will start on April 30th and run until May 8th. On one side of the bracket, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich will fight for a place in the final. In the other bracket, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund will compete for the remaining place.
