Ndicka, who felt ill on the field, “is fine”, confirms Roma coach

Roma’s French-Ivorian defender, Even Ndicka, who caused a huge scare on Sunday when he fainted during a game, “is fine”, assured his coach this Wednesday (17), on the eve of the second leg of the quarterfinals. Europa League final, against Milan.

“He is fine. Pneumothorax is uncomfortable and painful, but fortunately, if we can say so, he does not suffer from what we feared when he fainted on the field”, declared Daniele De Rossi at a press conference.

On Sunday, Ndicka, 24, suffered an illness in the 70th minute of Roma’s game against Udinese, in the 32nd round of Serie A.

The player remained conscious at all times and was taken first to the stadium infirmary and then to Udine hospital.

After spending a night under observation, he managed to return to Rome, after medical examinations revealed “no cardiac pathology”, but rather “a chest trauma with minimal left pneumothorax”.

After a conversation between the referees and representatives of both teams, the match was suspended. The remaining 20 minutes will be played on a date to be defined.

“It was what had to be done, it was a unanimous and even normal decision. None of my players were in a position to return to the game because the electrocardiogram (carried out at the stadium) seemed to indicate that he had been the victim of a heart attack”, commented the Roma coach on the matter.

After this scare, Roma decided to organize a free campaign of heart failure screening tests during the next home league match, on April 22, against Bologna.

Roma ‘tifosi’ over the age of 45 will be able to undergo an electrocardiogram controlled by a local hospital in a space close to Rome’s Olympic stadium before the start of the match.
