The flame of the 2024 Summer Olympics was lit in Ancient Olympia
The flame of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris was lit in Greece. RIA Novosti reports this.
According to tradition, the ceremony took place in the Temple of Hera in Ancient Olympia. The role of the High Priestess was played by actress Mary Mina. Due to bad weather, she was unable to light the torch from the sun’s rays using the parabolic mirror on the altar. Therefore, the torch was lit from the fire received during the dress rehearsal of the ceremony.
The Olympic torch relay will first take place in Greece. On April 26, the flame will return to Athens, where it will be handed over to the organizers of the 2024 Olympics. The flame will travel to France the next day aboard the 120-year-old three-masted sailing ship Belem, arriving in Marseille on May 8.
The Olympic Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11. Russians and Belarusians, if a number of conditions are met, will be able to compete in the individual competitions of the tournament in a neutral status.
