The State Duma appreciated Macron’s proposal for an Olympic truce

Deputy Belik advised Macron to forget about the truce scenario during the Olympics

Member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Dmitry Belik appreciated the proposal of French President Emmanuel Macron for an Olympic truce for the duration of the 2024 Games. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

The deputy expressed bewilderment at the fact that the European leader is talking about a truce and at the same time Russians are not allowed to participate in the competition. “No, this will not happen, and the fearful French Macron should forget about such a scenario and not use the leaders of countries that are friendly to Russia for his dirty purposes,” Belik advised.

On April 15, Macron expressed hope that conflicts in the world would stop during the Olympics in Paris. He noted that he would make every effort to implement this idea, with the help of international partners, including Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

The head of France also explained why Israel, unlike Russia, was allowed to participate in the Games without restrictions. According to him, Israel was the victim of a terrorist attack and is not the attacking party in its conflict.

The Olympic Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. Russians and Belarusians, if a number of conditions are met, will be able to compete in the individual competitions of the tournament in a neutral status.
