Macron: Olympic opening ceremony on the Seine may be limited due to threat of terrorist attack
French President Emmanuel Macron made a statement about the security threat at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games, which is to be held on the Seine River. His words are quoted by RMC Sport.
“In the event of a security threat, the opening ceremony could be limited to the Trocadéro or even the Stade de France as a precaution,” Macron said, adding that all security services would be mobilized a few days before the event and a security perimeter would be established.
Earlier, the French General Directorate of Internal Security recommended that the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs refuse to hold the Olympic Games opening ceremony due to possible terrorist attacks. Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said that France, after the events in the Crocus City Hall near Moscow, introduced the highest level of terrorist threat on the eve of the Olympics.
The Summer Olympic Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
