Atlético de Madrid took a small step towards the Champions League semi-finals by win this Wednesday (10) at home against Borussia Dortmund 2-1, in the first game of the quarter-finals of the continental tournament.
In a first half with extensive dominance by the Spanish team, Argentine Rodrigo de Paul opened the scoring for Atlético after just 5 minutes and Brazilian full-back Samuel Lino made it 2-0 (32′).
Sebastien Haller pulled one back in the final stretch (82′) and kept the German team’s hopes alive for the second leg, which will be played on April 16, in Dortmund.
“We didn’t manage to equalize, but now we have a result that leaves the door open,” said Dortmund coach Edin Terzic after the game.
Atlético once again transformed its Metropolitano stadium into a fortress, in which ‘Rojiblanco’ coach Diego Simeone became the ninth coach to reach the milestone of 50 Champions League victories.
