“The Crown of Kings”, a historical telenovela on TVP, which has been broadcast from the fourth season under the title “The Crown of Kings. Jagiellonians”, is a great hit on Polish Television. The series was broadcast in 2018-2020 and returned to the station in 2023. He talked about the monarchy in Poland under the rule of the Piasts, Angevins and the first Jagiellonians.
“Kings”, a new TVP series will replace “Crown of Kings”
The production did not impress critics and quickly became the subject of ridicule on the Internet. There were allegations about substantive errors in the series, and the creators were also criticized for the relatively low budget that was visible on the screen. Despite negative reviews, the series was very popular. The first season recorded an average viewership of 2 million viewers, the last one 1.19 million.
It’s no wonder that TVP is planning another series that will continue the story from “The Crown of Kings”. The new production “Kings”, like the previous ones, will be a costume series, but this time it will tell the story of two sons of Władysław II Jagiełło – Władysław Warneńczyk and Kazimierz Jagiellończyk.
“Kings”. What will the series be about?
The Wirtualne Media portal states that the action of the series will begin in 1440, when Władysław was only 16 years old and went to Hungary to take over his father’s throne. In turn, his younger brother goes to Lithuania to also take power there. “Great history will be the background for numerous moral threads and an excuse to tell stories about people – about their passions, loves, joys and sorrows, which, regardless of the times, are always similar, but in the context of medieval customs they take on a new dimension,” we read in the series announcement.
The cast known from previous TVP series will appear in “Kings”. On the screen we will see Michał Kaszyński, Krzysztof Świłpła, but also Maria Pawłowska, Przemysław Stipp and Adrian Zdrójkowski. So far, the premiere date of the series is not known yet.
