Ceferin on the admission of Belarus: no politician will tell us what to do
President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Aleksander Čeferin explained the different sanctions against Russia and Belarus. His words are quoted by infoLibre.
Ceferin stressed that no politician will tell UEFA what to do. He stated that he was against boycotts, but in the case of Russia there was no other choice.
“As for Belarus, several politicians wrote to us saying that everyone who helped Russia should be removed. Now I ask a question: are those who buy gas helping Russia? Should we exclude all European countries, even the largest ones, that continue to buy gas? – asked the head of UEFA.
Russian football clubs and national teams have not taken part in international tournaments since February 2022 by decision of the International Football Federation and UEFA. Belarusian teams continue to compete, but all home matches under the auspices of UEFA have been moved to neutral grounds.
