Oleg Matytsin stated the inadmissibility of denouncing Russians who want to go to the Olympic Games
Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin stood up for representatives of the country who want to go to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. His words are quoted by the department’s Telegram channel.
The functionary declared the inadmissibility of accusatory rhetoric against athletes. “We are a single sports family, at this difficult moment it is necessary to unite and treat with respect those who, through their hard work, have won the right to compete at the Olympics,” Matytsin said.
According to the minister, the entire world sports community is now paying close attention to Russia. “Therefore, it is especially important to demonstrate an example of consolidation and not give reasons for disunity,” Matytsin said.
Earlier on April 5, the head of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics, Irina Viner, considered that Russians performing at the Games should not have citizenship of the country. On the same day, the President of the Russian Olympic Committee Stanislav Pozdnyakov called Russian tennis players wishing to compete at the Games a team of foreign agents.
