“I would like him to stay, but I don’t know if it will be possible”, says Benfica coach about Di María

The German Roger Schmidt, coach of Benfica, commented on the eve of the classic against Sporting, that he would like to count on Di María for next season. However, he stated that the decision is in the player’s hands.

“Ángel’s situation is quite clear. His signing was something big for us, for the fans and for football, as it is a fantastic story to start in Europe as an Argentine at Benfica and after a great career to return to the club and continue playing at a high level. Last week we had this situation in his country, we talked about it, but we didn’t comment on what will happen next season”, the German coach began by saying.

“His plan was to play one season at Benfica and then maybe make another decision. I don’t know what he wants now, but he’s still in great shape, he’s a fantastic player, a fundamental player for us, I have all the respect for him. He’ll make the decision with your family and we’ll see what it will be. It would be good to keep it, but I don’t know if it will be possible”, he concluded.

The classic for the 28th round of the Portuguese Championship, against Sporting, will be this Saturday, at 4:30 pm (Brasília time), at the José Alvalade Stadium. The match is worth the leadership of the competition, as the Eagles are in second place, with 67 points, while Sporting is the leader, with one more point.
