Deputy Svishchev called the IOC’s request to the Ukrainians to monitor the Russians a provocation
The head of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports, Dmitry Svishchev, responded to the request of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for Ukrainians to monitor the statements of Russians. His words are quoted by Sport Express.
Svishchev called the statement of IOC head Thomas Bach a provocation and considered such calls unacceptable. “Is this really the level of the president? Of course not. The intelligence services can do this,” he said.
Earlier, Bach spoke about the creation of a special commission that monitors statements by Russian athletes in the media and on the Internet. The Ukrainian side is also involved in this.
In December 2023, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympics in Paris as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
