Maria Zakharova accused IOC head Thomas Bach of criminal conspiracy with Ukraine
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, made accusations against the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach in her Telegram channel.
“Bach entered into a political-administrative and, obviously, criminal conspiracy with one specific party to exclude strong sports competitors from international competitions,” Zakharova said. She called for a thorough investigation into the relations of the IOC head with the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine and its officials.
Earlier, Bach spoke about the creation of a special commission that monitors statements by Russian athletes in the media and on the Internet. The Ukrainian side is also involved in this work.
In December 2023, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympics in Paris as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
