Pozdnyakov condemned the IOC for its silence in response to the words of the mayor of Paris about Russians at the Olympic Games
The President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov in his Telegram channel reacted to the words of the Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo about the Russians at the 2024 Olympics.
The head of the ROC condemned the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for its silence in response to Hidalgo’s statements. “If the host city is not ready to host athletes who have received the right to participate in competitions, then the IOC should at least move the Games to another location,” Pozdnyakov said.
In his opinion, it is not so important whether Hidalgo’s words are an irresponsible anti-Russian slogan or a responsible official statement. “This doesn’t change the essence – they really don’t want to see even completely impersonal athletes from our country at the Olympics,” he concluded.
Earlier, Hidalgo said that Russian and Belarusian athletes would not be welcome at the Games. At the same time, she expressed support “with all her might” for Ukrainian athletes.
In December 2023, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympics in Paris as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
