This Saturday morning, Chelsea hosted Burnley, at Stamford Bridge, in London (ING), for the 30th round of the English Championship, and, even with an extra player from the first half, they drew 2-2. Cole Palmer scored the home team’s goals, while Josh Cullen and Dara O’Shea scored the visitors’ goals.
Thus, the Blues reach their third draw in the last five matches at Nacional. As a result, they remain in 11th place, with 40 points.
On the other hand, the visitors remain in second place in the Premier League, with 18 units combined. The distance to Nottingham Forest, the first club outside the Z3, is five points.
In the next round, therefore, Chelsea will play a classic against Manchester United, at 4:15 pm (BrasÃlia time) on Thursday, again at Stamford Bridge. On Tuesday, Burnley will host Wolverhampton, starting at 3:45 pm, at Turf Moor Stadium, in Burnley (ING).
Chelsea and Burnley goals
Playing in front of their fans, Chelsea opened the scoring in the 21st minute, with defender Axel Disasi, who took advantage of Mudryk’s cross and dived to find the back of the goal. However, with the help of VAR, the referee canceled the goal due to a handball from the French defender.
The hosts were unfazed and continued in search of the first goal of the match. Thus, at 40, Mudryk was thrown into the area and brought down by Assignon while fighting for the ball. The penalty was awarded, and the Burnley defender, who received a second yellow card, was sent off, as was coach Vincent Kompany, for complaining. Cole Palmer dug in with style to open the scoring in London.
After the break, the visiting team, even with one down, needed three minutes to make everything equal. Josh Cullen received a pass from Brownhill at the edge of the area and made the first attempt to beat goalkeeper Petrovic and score a beautiful goal.
Chelsea took the lead again in the 33rd minute of the second half. After a well-worked move in the central region, Enzo Fernández called on Sterling, who gave a great assist to Cole Palmer. The young Englishman entered the area and hit the corner to make it 2-1.
The happiness of those in charge, however, was short-lived. Just three minutes later, Burnley left everything the same again at Stamford Bridge. After a corner kick, Dara O’Shea rose above the Chelsea defense and tested the ball into the back of the net.
