Tennis player Rublev said that he is highly likely to compete at the Olympics
Russian tennis player Andrei Rublev answered a question about performing at the 2024 Olympic Games. His words are quoted by Sport Express.
“If, God willing, everything remains as it is today, and we can play, and everything will be fine with my health and physically, then with a very high degree of probability I will go,” Rublev said. He added that he definitely plans to compete in singles, but is not sure about doubles and mixed doubles.
Rublev is the 2020 Olympic champion. At the Tokyo Games he won the mixed doubles event together with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Rublev is currently ranked sixth in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings.
Earlier, another Russian tennis player, Daniil Medvedev, spoke about the possibility of playing at the Olympics in Paris. The country’s first racket noted that he is ready to compete at the Games if his health allows.
In December 2023, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympics in Paris as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support the SVO, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
