The UFC wanted to cancel the fight between Pavlovich and Volkov

The teams of Russian fighters Pavlovich and Volkov will ask the UFC to cancel their fight

They wanted to cancel the fight between Russian mixed style fighters (MMA) Sergei Pavlovich and Alexander Volkov in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). TASS reports this with reference to a source.

“Volkov and Pavlovich did not intend to fight each other, they are on good terms and periodically train together. Volkov also already had a contract in hand for a fight against the Brazilian Jailton Almeida,” the source said, adding that the teams of athletes will be asked not to hold the fight. The agency’s interlocutor added that the fight is possible only if it is a contender’s or title fight.

The fight between Pavlovich and Volkov was announced on March 28. It was reported that it will take place at the UFC tournament in Saudi Arabia on June 22.

The 31-year-old Pavlovich has 18 wins and two losses. In November 2023, the fighter lost by knockout to Englishman Tom Aspinall within a minute in a fight for the interim UFC heavyweight title. Pavlovich is ranked third in the UFC heavyweight rankings.

35-year-old Volkov has 37 wins and 10 losses in MMA. In his last fight, he defeated Australian Tai Tuivas. Volkov is in sixth place in the UFC rankings among heavyweights.
