On Tuesday, March 26, Telewizja Polska filed a lawsuit against TV Republika in the District Court in Warsaw. The public broadcaster demands “to stop infringing TVP’s copyright to the ‘Jedziemy’ broadcast” and to pay compensation. The total amount of claims is approximately PLN 1 million.

In December last year, changes took place at Telewizja Polska, as a result of which many of the station’s top employees left their jobs. Among them was Michał Rachoń, who previously hosted the “Jedziemy” program on TVP Info. The presenter moved to TV Republika, where he became the host of a program with the same title and a format very similar to the one known from Telewizja Polska.
Last month, Sakiewicz’s medium received a pre-trial letter demanding payment of PLN 1 million for “infringement of copyrights to the broadcast”, a payment of PLN 100,000 to the National Film Institute and an apology on the station’s air. However, the parties did not reach an agreement, as a result of which on March 26, 2024, Telewizja Polska filed a lawsuit in the District Court in Warsaw.
The host of the “Jedziemy” program himself commented on the matter. Michał Rachoń’s statement was quoted on the “Dzisiaj” news website, run by Danuta Holecka. “This is the incompetence of people who simply show that they stopped, in terms of their knowledge of television, about 15, 20 years ago. They are trying to recreate the formats that Jerzy Urban introduced to television in the 1980s. They are people who cannot care for the property of all of us, citizens of the Polish state, because Telewizja Polska is not in liquidation, this institution is an important institution of the Polish state. They cannot take care of it, they show their incompetence at every step, but, from our perspective, leaving it aside, we must state directly – Donald Tusk, Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz, all these politicians who have a hand in this and all these people who do it on their behalf, are basically trying to take away your television, Telewizja Republikê, from the state. We will not agree to this” – said Michał Rachoń.
