Mamiashvili called on Bach to resign as head of the IOC to engage in politics
President of the Russian Wrestling Federation Mikhail Mamiashvili condemned the statements of the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach on the situation with the admission of Russians to tournaments. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“What kind of temptations had to be exposed to this person for him to become so deformed. There is an IOC charter, and no one has the right to interpret it like that,” Mamiashvili said.
In his opinion, Bach is engaged in opportunistic political repression. Mamiashvili called on the head of the IOC to resign if he wants to get involved in politics.

Earlier, the IOC called the Friendship Games a politicized event of the Russian government. The organization called on all participants in the Olympic movement to refuse to participate.
On March 19, Bach, answering a question about the admission of Russians to the 2024 Olympic Games, emphasized that athletes cannot be held responsible for the actions of the authorities. At the same time, he said that he fears aggressive statements from Russia and the country’s government due to the conditions for the participation of athletes in the tournament.
Russians and Belarusians will be able to take part in the 2024 Olympics as individual neutral athletes. However, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will miss the tournament. In addition, there will be no representatives of the two countries’ team sports in Paris.
