The fourth stage of the Itzulia Basque Country of 2024 will be disputed Thursday, April 4thhas 159 kilometers of travel, it will leave Etxarri Aranatz and will conclude in Legutio. It is a day that foresees, in its layout, the ascent to three scoring portstwo of which are in the last 30 kilometers of the race, that is, in the decisive stretch of a day that will pass, for the most part, in the territory of Alava.

Opakua, Untzilla and Leintz-Gatzaga These are the four passes that the participants of the 63rd Itzulia must overcome in this fourth stage. The first of them, Opakua, whose banner is at kilometer 40.8, is 2nd category, while the other two are classified as 3rd category. It is, in short, a stage in which, as the race organization suggests, Opakua could help materialize the day’s breakaway, but which foresees the dispute of some very nervous last kilometers, with three climbs that are as short as they are demanding.

After leaving behind Etxarri Aranatz and Alsasuathe Itzulia platoon will enter Alavagoing by Zalduondo and Salvatierra, where the climb to Opakua will begin. It is a 7.1 kilometer pass, with an average slope of 5.8%, which preludes the passage through Azazeta, Elorriaga, Uribarri Ganboa and Legutiowhere, at kilometer 107, the first special sprint of the stage will take place.

This is where the stretch begins, characterized by continuous 3rd category climbs, which can decide the winner and the fate of the stage. Untzillaat 132.4, and Leintz Gatzaga, at 149.2, with ten to go, offer ground to fight, if you have the strength and legs for it. Untzilla is an effort of 2.3 kilometers with a tough average slope of 8.5%, and Leintz-Gatzaga, three kilometers long, has an average slope of 8.7%.

The last three kilometers of the day, which lead to Legutio, are flat. That Alava town will see the winner of the stage raise his arms; Whoever comes out dressed in Legutio yellow will have two days ahead of him to defend the jersey that accredits him as leader of the event.
