Russian wrestler Evloev was not allowed to qualify for the Olympic Games because of the poster “No to Nazism”
Olympic champion in Greco-Roman wrestling Musa Evloev was denied access to the qualifying tournament for the 2024 Games. President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) Mikhail Mamiashvili told RIA Novosti.
“The sad fact is that he was convicted for being photographed in front of a “No to Nazism!” poster. This is the main complaint that is presented to the Olympic champion Evloev – that he is for a world without Nazism,” Mamiashvili said, adding that there are no other complaints from the United World of Wrestling (UWW). He noted that the team will try to get the Russian to participate in the selection, which will be held in April in Baku.
30-year-old Evloev is the champion of the Olympic Games in Tokyo in the weight category up to 97 kilograms. He also has two gold medals at the World and European Championships and a victory at the World Cup.
Russians and Belarusians will be able to take part in the 2024 Olympics as individual neutral athletes by decision of the International Olympic Committee. However, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will miss the tournament. In addition, there will be no representatives of the two countries’ team sports in Paris.
