If you don’t want your curtains to harbor kitchen fumes or stains from human hands, wash them thoroughly. Thanks to this, they will look elegant and refresh the look of any room. However, it is not always a good practice to simply put them in the washing machine and set the program.

First of all, pay attention to the information provided by the manufacturer on the product label. It is worth being aware that not all materials can be put in the drum, and some of them need to be washed at a specific temperature. If you don’t have a label, the best choice is a temperature no higher than 40 degrees Celsius. Before placing your curtains in the washing machine, remove hooks, decorations and other items. The detergent should be delicate and intended for washing the fabric we have. It should not contain strong bleaches as they could damage the curtains.

How to dry curtains? Use a dryer or hang wet fabric

Once the washing program is finished, get straight to work and dry the curtains. This is especially important in the case of those made of velvet. You can use a low temperature in a tumble dryer (using a higher temperature may result in unsightly creases), or if you don’t have one, choose natural drying. Simply hang the slightly damp fabric on the curtain rods to dry properly. The fabric will smooth itself out, there will be no creases, and you will no longer have to waste time on additional ironing. However, remember to open windows and ventilate the apartment so that moisture does not settle in the room where you dry the curtains. Unfortunately, large amounts may contribute to the formation of unsightly and harmful mold.
