Arrizabalaga and Erasun, Couples champions
Euskaraz irakurri: Arrizabalaga eta Erasun, Binakako txapeldun
Olatz Arrizabalaga and Itxaso Erasun are the Emakume Master Cup Couples champions. The Gernika forward and the Zizurkil defender have won a very close and disputed final against Maddalen Etxegarai and Enara Gaminde by 22 to 16. It is the fifth txapela for Arrizabalaga and the first for her teammate.
The final was expected very even and disputed, and that is precisely what the spectators who came to the Uarkape fronton in Arrasate have seen and enjoyed. Face to face, the best forward today, Arrizabalaga, and one of the best defenders, Gaminde.
The blue pair’s strategy has been clear from the beginning: let Gernika’s forward play as little as possible and punish Erasun’s rearguard. The strategy worked well for them in the first half of the game. Equality has been the prevailing note, with Olatz keeping the red couple afloat, while Erasun barely coped with the balls sent to him by his rivals.
Thus, the scoreboard has reflected minimal advantages, two points at most, and the final has been alive until the last minutes.
Of the 13-15 in which it seemed that the blues were going to start to get back on track the final has gone to 18-15 in favor of the red ones. Erasun has been gaining confidence in the back teams and that has been decisive in the resolution of the final. And there the game has definitely broken down.
With 20-16 in favor, the txapela was increasingly red and finally Olatz Arrizabalaga and Itxaso Erasun won by 22 to 16. Fifth txapela for the Gernika forward who today was playing in their seventh final, the fifth in a row.
