Promes was recommended to miss the Spartak match in Baku due to the risk of extradition
Spartak Moscow forward Quincy Promes, convicted in absentia in Amsterdam for drug trafficking, was recommended to miss a friendly match in Azerbaijan due to the risk of extradition. The words of lawyer Igor Bushmanov are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Bushmanov said that a trip to Baku, where the red-white match against the local Neftchi is scheduled to take place on March 23, could lead to negative consequences for the foreign player. “It is advisable for Promes not to visit any countries that have an agreement with the Netherlands on mutual assistance in criminal matters and the extradition of wanted persons,” he said.
On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes in absentia to six years in prison. According to investigators, in 2019 the player was involved in transporting a large shipment of cocaine that belonged to Surinamese drug trafficker Piet Wartel.
In addition, in June 2023, a Dutch court sentenced Promes in absentia to 18 months in prison. The attacker was then found guilty of involvement in the armed attack and stabbing of his cousin.
