Former head coach of CSKA, Portuguese Arthur Jorge, has died

Former head coach of CSKA Moscow, Portuguese Arthur Jorge, died at the age of 78. The Portuguese portal Record reported this on Thursday, February 22.

“It is with deep sadness that the family of Arthur Jorge announces his death in Lisbon after a long illness. He died calmly, surrounded by his loved ones,” the specialist’s family said in a statement.

Jorge headed CSKA from 2003 to 2004. Under the leadership of the Portuguese coach, the army team won the 2004 Russian Super Cup, beating the capital’s Spartak in extra time with a score of 3:1.

In addition to CSKA, Jorge worked with the Portuguese Porto and Benfica, as well as the French Paris Saint-Germain. He managed to become the first Portuguese specialist to win the European Cup – he did this in the 1986/1987 season at the helm of Porto. In addition, he led the club to victory in the Portuguese championship three times. Together with PSG, Jorge became the champion of France and the winner of the national Cup.

In addition to clubs, Jorge also worked with national teams. At various times he led the national teams of Switzerland, Portugal and Cameroon.
