Shipulin said that the absence of Russians at international tournaments is killing biathlon
Former Russian biathlete and State Duma deputy Anton Shipulin spoke about the exclusion of domestic athletes from international tournaments. His words are quoted by “Championship”.
Shipulin said that he has stopped watching the World Cup, but is following the domestic competitions. “Without Russian athletes, biathlon is no longer interesting. Are Norwegians killing biathlon? Biathlon is killed by the absence of Russians,” he said.
Earlier, two-time Olympic biathlon champion Svetlana Ishmuratova called tournaments without Russians competitions for asthmatics. She noted that she is not interested in such competitions.
Russians and Belarusians do not participate in international competitions by decision of the International Biathlon Union (IBU). The order came into force in March 2022 and will remain in effect until further notice.
