Canada will appeal the redistribution of the 2022 Olympics team tournament awards

Canada will appeal over the 2022 Games bronze medal granted to Russian figure skaters

Figure Skating Canada will appeal the redistribution of team skating awards at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. This is reported on the organization’s website.

“While we respect the decisions made by the International Skating Union (ISU), we do not agree with the conclusion they reached and believe that an independent review will provide much-needed clarity for all affected parties,” the statement said.

On January 30, the ISU redistributed the medals of the Olympic team tournament due to the disqualification and cancellation of the results of Russian Kamila Valieva. The Russian team remained the winner of the competition, moving from first to third place, gold went to the USA, silver to Japan. If the Russian team had been disqualified, Canada would have won the bronze.

On January 29, Valieva was disqualified for four years for violating anti-doping rules. The period of suspension is counted from the moment the sample is taken – December 25, 2021. The fact that traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in it became known after the end of the team tournament at the Beijing Games.
