The 74th Berlin International Film Festival has just started, making the German capital a place the whole world is watching closely. He used it, among others, a Senegalese model who appeared on the red carpet of the festival with a special message. In turn, other women decided to demonstrate in support of the war between Israel and Hamas using their creations.

This year’s Berlin International Film Festival started on Thursday, February 15. The opening film was an Irish film titled “Small Things Like These” directed by Tim Mielants. The main competition will be chaired by Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o.

This year, there is also a lot of talk about the red carpet, which featured the biggest movie stars. However, the greatest attention was drawn to the people who came to the opening of the Berlinale to manifest an important message. The first to emerge from the crowd was Senegalese model Papis Loveday, who stood in front of photojournalists with a banner reading: No Racism, No AFD.

In this way, the black fashion entrepreneur expressed his opposition to racism and the AfD (Alternative for Germany) party, which represents extreme right-wing views and is currently very popular among residents of Germany’s eastern states.

A moment later, three women presented themselves in the same place, diversifying their styles with a material sewn on their backs, with the inscription: Cease fire now (English: Stop firing now). This slogan can often be found among various petitions against Israel’s war with Palestine. American women used them to draw the world’s attention to the problem of armed conflict.

This year, the special award at the Berlin festival will go to Martin Scorsese

The 74th edition of the Berlinale will last until February 25, 2024. The day before, we will know the winner of the festival’s main prize – the Golden Bear. It will be selected by: Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o, American actor, screenwriter and director Brady Corbet, Hong Kong director and screenwriter Ann Hui, German director and screenwriter Christian Petzold, Spanish director Albert Serra, Italian actress Jasmine Trinca and Ukrainian writer and poet Oksana Zabużko.

The long-awaited ceremony of awarding the Honorary Golden Bear to Martin Scorsese will also take place during the festival. The creator of films such as “Taxi Driver” and “The Wolf of Wall Street” will receive this unique award on Tuesday, February 20.
