Head of WADA Banka: the group of neutral athletes at the 2024 Olympics will be small

The head of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Witold Banka, spoke about the number of neutral athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games (OG). His words are quoted by RozmowaRMF on social networks X.

“That group of so-called neutral athletes will be very small if they take part in the Olympic Games in Paris at all, based on the fact that the Russians will boycott the conditions, the criteria of neutrality that were proposed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC),” Banka said.

In January it was reported that six Russians and five Belarusians had qualified for the Games in Paris. The names of the athletes were not announced. Now the athletes who have qualified for the Olympics are being checked.

On December 8, the IOC announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the 2024 Olympics. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine and have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not get to Paris. Representatives of team sports will also miss the tournament.
