Cindy Crawford is an icon of the 90s. She collaborated with fashion houses and… a Polish water producer

Even people who are not very interested in the fashion industry know – or at least know – who Cindy Crawford is. In the 1990s, her modeling career gained incredible momentum and she quickly became an icon of that period. To date, he is one of the most recognizable people in the world. But her life wasn’t always a bed of roses.

Cindy Crawford was born in 1966 in the small town of DeKalb, located just over 100 km from Chicago. As she stated in the 2023 docuseries Supermodels, her childhood was “idyllic” until her two-year-old brother was diagnosed with leukemia. A year later he died, and 9-year-old Cindy and her two sisters learned that life is not always rosy. They said it should have happened to one of the girls, not the only boy in the family. That’s why they decided to strive to be perfect and the best daughters for their parents.

Cindy Crawford fought for her father’s favor

Cindy worked hard both in school (she always studied well) and after school (she worked in the cornfield). She graduated from high school with honors, and then she was accepted to study chemistry, but she did not take it. She decided to take up modeling seriously. She took her first steps as a teenager, when she appeared in a photo session for one of the local boutiques, and a year later she appeared on the cover of a college magazine. Then she definitely decided that she wanted to be a model.

Originally, it wasn’t easy for her at all. Cindy’s mother, Jennifer Sue Crawford-Moluf, showed her great empathy and understanding. However, his father, John Daniel Crawford, appreciated his ambitious approach to life. He only looked favorably on his daughter when she achieved success. He wasn’t particularly excited about his child’s modeling career. As Crawford said in the series mentioned above:

At first, my dad didn’t think modeling was a real profession. He said it was just another word for prostitution.

Cindy Crawford has cooperated with the largest fashion houses and… a Polish water producer

However, Cindy Crawford did not give up modeling. Already in 1986, she appeared on two covers of American Vogue and one of German Vogue. Only until the end of the decade of this prestigious fashion magazine around the world (including British, French, Australian, Spanish).

Thanks to her achievements in the previous decade, the 1990s were the most illustrious times for Cindy Crawford. She collaborated with the largest fashion houses, including: Dolce & Gabbana, Michael Kors, Chanel, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Valentino, Dior. She took part in many advertising campaigns for cosmetics, e.g. L’OrĂ©al, Revlon, Schwarzkopf, as well as for the food industry, e.g. Pepsi. Interestingly, there was also a Polish accent in her career, in 2004. She also tried her hand at being an actress, but ultimately stayed in her industry.
