Three-time Olympic champion and now State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina explained the deprivation of the Russian team of gold in the team figure skating tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. Her words are quoted by Sport24.
“Nobody deprived us of the gold medal, but the results were recalculated,” Rodnina said. She drew attention to the fact that in terms of the total points scored by domestic athletes, and taking into account the cancellation of Kamila Valieva’s points, the Russians were in third place.
Previously, the Russian team was deprived of gold in the team figure skating tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games after Kamila Valieva’s points were cancelled. As a result, Russia dropped to third place in the standings, gold went to the USA team, and silver went to Japan.
On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) suspended Kamila Valieva for four years. The period of suspension is counted from December 25, 2021, all her results for this period are canceled.
