The United States assessed the possible return of Russian figure skaters to tournaments

US journalist Liz considered the return of Russians unprofitable for figure skating

US journalist Dave Lees assessed the possible return of Russian figure skaters to tournaments. He shared his opinion on The Skating Lesson podcast, which is available on YouTube.

According to Lees, the Russians’ performance at international competitions would be good for figure skating’s star power. He added that significant changes must be made to improve the sport for the long term.

“They will come back and athletes with no glide will again get top marks because they can jump? I don’t think this is beneficial for figure skating. This is not a solution,” the journalist said.

Liz is known for his criticism of Russian coach Eteri Tutberidze and her group. So, he stated that many figure skaters on her team use a hormone blocker.

The Russians are missing the competition due to sanctions from the International Skating Federation (ISU), which were introduced on March 1, 2022.
