She asked a neighbor for help in keeping an eye on the dogs. After returning, she found a letter from him

We don’t realize how one innocent question can change not only our life, but also that of a complete stranger. This woman just asked her neighbor for a favor, no one could have predicted how much it would change his sad and difficult life.

In the past, neighbors who lived in the same building knew each other, liked each other, and often talked to each other. Today, times have changed a bit. Now we don’t even know who we share the floor with or who are our close neighbors. Sometimes, however, we face a difficult situation and we have no choice but to knock on the door next to us and ask for help. This is what an elderly woman did, whose story was described by the website.

Even though she didn’t know her neighbor, she decided to ask him for help. It was about dogs

The woman lived alone and had three dogs under her care: Smokey, Oreo and Jennifer. However, she had to leave for a few days and it was impossible to take the animals with her. She had no one she trusted or knew whom she could entrust with their care. However, an idea occurred to her. She decided to knock on the neighbor’s door – a retired old man lived next door. The man rarely left the house, and they almost didn’t talk to each other. She was desperate and knew that taking care of three dogs was quite a challenge. However, the neighbor showed neither surprise nor shock. He agreed without any problem.

The content of the letter shocked and surprised the woman. She decided to publish it online

After returning from the trip, the dogs returned happy to their owner, and the woman found a letter stuck in the door. It began with the neighbor wishing the woman a nice afternoon, then there was a short explanation that there would be a few words about her vacation and what had happened.

As you know, I’m an old man. You don’t see me outside much anymore because the pubs aren’t as lively as they used to be. Add to this that two years ago, in the middle of the pandemic, my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. After his death, I was left alone. I don’t have a wife or children. One day I could fall asleep and never wake up. Every day I just sit and wonder what I have done for this world. Until I met Smokey, Oreo and Jennifer.

Your pets are the cutest, funniest and most troublesome (in a good way). They gave me the motivation to start my life again. I started getting up early in the morning. I started going for walks for the first time in years. Whenever I felt sad for a second, they would bark or rub against my leg and make me laugh.

The highlight of their stay was when I took them to the park. It was the longest time I had spent outside in a long time. Not only did this bring back the interaction with the animals, but I also met other people, started talking and became friends with several. I was so happy to finally be able to talk, interact with others and feel part of the human race. I realize I sound very existential right now, but I’m telling the truth. It’s nice to know that I’m doing something for someone, even if it’s my neighbor.

I recently adopted two dogs. Now I regularly go to the park with them and talk to the friends I made there. Anyway, I just want to say: thank you very much. You gave meaning back to my life. And that’s all that matters.

Best regards, Robert (PS. I think it’s time to mow the lawn, haha!).
