Another Chelsea setback in the Premier League. Billionaires still hit bottom

. On Thursday, the teams of Liverpool and Chelsea, chasing “The Citizens”, were trying to keep up with the loss to the leader they had before the start of the round. Both teams played at home – Liverpool behind Chelsea against Everton – and were clear favorites in this confrontation.

Liverpool did the job. Newcastle still on the bottom

The Premier League runner-up emerged victorious from his match. The Reds beat Anfield Newcastle 3-1, although the game started in a sensational way. In the seventh minute of the game, former Liverpool player Jonjo Shelvey scored a beautiful goal for Newcastle.

However, the next blows were dealt by the hosts, who between the 21st and 25th minutes were able to reverse the result of this match. First, after a close-up shot, Diogo Jota led to a draw, and then Shelvey’s nightmarish mistake was taken by Sadio Mane’s strike in a one-on-one situation with Newcastle’s goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. A dot over the “i” was placed at the very end with a phenomenal long-range shot by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Chelsea’s knock-up. Only a draw despite the great advantage

There was a surprise in the second Thursday meeting. They only tied 1: 1 at home. Both teams joined this match very weakened. Chelsea lacked Romelu Lukaku, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Timo Werner and Mateo Kovacic with COVID-19, and Kai Havertz also reported indisposition. On the side of Everton, there were, among others Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Lucas Digne, Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend.

Chelsea had a huge advantage in this game, but did not score until the second half. In the 70th minute, Mason Mount interrupted the clumsiness of “The Blues” at the opponent’s goal, who used the situation alone with the goalkeeper. The team, however, only enjoyed the lead for four minutes, after which 19-year-old Jarrad Branthwaite had equalized after a set part of the game.

After 17 matches in the Premier League, they are in the lead (41 points), ahead of Liverpool one point (40) and four (Chelsea).

The next matches of the English league will take place this weekend, although as many as five of them will not be played by the coronavirus pandemic raging in the clubs. The matches of the three best teams at the moment are to take place as planned, although it is possible that the league authorities will decide to postpone the entire 18th round.
