The German Ambassador called the expulsion of Russian diplomats “a response to the violation of sovereignty”

The decision of the German authorities to expel two Russian diplomats after the conviction of a Russian citizen for the murder of Zelimkhan Khangoshvili was “a response to the violation of the country’s sovereignty,” said German Ambassador to Russia Geza Andreas von Geir.

According to RBC, the ambassador stressed that the incident “is a serious violation of the sovereignty of Germany,” and recalled that an independent court of Germany recognized the guilt of the Russian in the murder. He also noted that as a representative of the state “he cannot focus only on the positive aspects in relations between Moscow and Germany, ignoring complex topics.”

We will remind, the court in Berlin on December 15 appointed Russian Vadim Krasikov life imprisonment. He arrived in Berlin with forged documents and on 23 August 2019 shot Zelimkhan Khangoshvili. The court ruled that the Russian had acted on orders from Moscow and was an employee of the state security services.

After the verdict, the German Foreign Ministry declared two employees of the Russian Embassy persona non grata.
