European figure skating champion Adam Xiao Him Fa assessed the impact of the absence of Russians at international tournaments on the level of competition. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to the Frenchman, the fact is that there are fewer skaters. “But I can’t say that this greatly affects the results. There is not much point in discussing the issue. After all, all athletes progress from season to season and can do this very quickly, regardless of citizenship,” he emphasized.
Xiao Him Fa became European champion in 2023 in a tournament in which no Russians took part. At the two previous continental championships in men’s single skating, domestic skaters won.
On March 1, 2022, the International Skating Union (ISU) banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions under its auspices. Due to sanctions, skaters were unable to take part in the World and European Championships, as well as other international tournaments.
