Figure skater Vasiliev said that the Russians were allowed to the Olympics at the wrong time
Latvian figure skater Denis Vasiliev appreciated the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to admit Russians to the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. His words are quoted by Jauns.lv.
According to the athlete, now is not the right time for this. “Personally, I can’t say with all my heart: everything is fine, let’s skate together again. However, I believe that it will be necessary to admit the Russians when the political situation normalizes,” Vasiliev emphasized.
He also criticized the decision to allow Russian athletes to participate in tournaments under a neutral flag. “If one country flies under a neutral flag, then stop pretending and return its flag to it,” he said.
On December 8, the IOC announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Games in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition.
