The mother of wanted fencer Bida said that he wanted to resign from the Russian Guard
Elena Grishina, the mother of the Russian fencer Sergei Bida, who was put on the wanted list by the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, spoke about the circumstances of his departure to the United States. Her words are quoted by RT.
According to her, her son tried several times to resign from the Russian Guard, but was refused. “He had permission to leave the country from the Ministry of Sports. The corresponding lists were compiled by the head coach of the Russian national team, Ilgar Mamedov. He sent them, among other things, to the Russian Guard, since there were other fencers there. The Ministry of Defense had a similar list. They were signed there,” the fencer’s mother emphasized.
Grishina noted that Bida was freely released from the country. “He planned to leave, have surgery and possibly come back,” the athlete’s mother said.
The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has put on the wanted list Russian fencers Sergei and Violetta Bida, who left for the United States. They are defendants under Article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Unauthorized abandonment of a unit or place of service”). Athletes face up to ten years in prison.
