Italy and Argentina, as champions of Europe and America, will meet next year in London

The “Finalísima” is scheduled for June 1, 2022 in a stadium that is yet to be defined in the English capital.

Those selected from Argentina and Italy, champions of America and of Europe, will play a “Finalísima” on June 1, 2022 in London, announced this Wednesday the Conmebol.

The meeting in London is part of an extension of an understanding agreement between the Conmebol and UEFA, which includes the opening of a joint office of the South American and European confederations in the British capital.

It has not yet been defined in which London stadium the match will be played.

“To the very final between Argentina and Italy on June 1 in London other sporting events will be added first level, as befits the tradition of South American and European football. The opening of our joint office will allow us to face with agility and vigor new projects for the benefit of millions of fans in our continents and in the rest of the world ”, said the president of Conmebol, Alejandro Dominguez.

From the hand of Lionel Messi, Argentina broke a 28-year negative streak without titles in the Copa América final on July 10 against archrival Brazil (1-0) at the legendary Maracana stadium.

A day later, Italy won the Eurocup in another mythical stadium, the Wembley, against the local England in the penalty shootout 3-2.

As part of the cooperation agreements between the two confederations, an Argentine referee directed matches in the last European Championship and a Spanish referee did so in the Copa América. (D)
