Sisters Dina and Arina Averina said that they are motivated to compete
Russian gymnasts Dina and Arina Averina spoke about a possible retirement. Their words are quoted by Sport24.
“This is no comment. But we still have the motivation to compete, of course. But… That’s it, we are silent,” the sisters noted.
Earlier, the head of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics, Irina Viner, announced the refusal of representatives of the country’s national team to perform at international tournaments without a flag and anthem. She also called the possible performance of Russian athletes at the 2024 Games in a neutral status a disgrace.
Last August, the Averina sisters announced that they would leave the sport if it became known that the Russian team would not be able to compete at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Dina Averina added that she had long planned to end her career, but her sister convinced her to continue training and performing.
Dina Averina won silver at the Tokyo Olympics in the individual all-around. She also has 18 victories at the World Championships and 10 at the European Championships. Arina Averina became world champion five times and European champion nine times.
