Olympic champion in ice dancing, coach Natalya Linichuk explained her return to Russia from the USA 30 years after leaving. Her words are quoted by RT.
Linichuk said she always wanted to return, but family responsibilities stopped her. “I wanted to stay with them longer, to feel like a mother and grandmother, to help as much as possible,” she said.
On January 22, it became known that 67-year-old Linichuk, who went to live in the States in the early 1990s, returned to her homeland. She stated that she wants to work as a coach with Russian skaters and is open to offers.
Together with Gennady Karponosov, she became the Olympic champion in 1980. The couple also has two victories at the World and European Championships. After finishing their sports careers, the athletes worked as coaches in the USA. Under their leadership, Tatiana Navka and Roman Kostomarov became Olympic champions. In 2014, the couple divorced.
