Antonio Alvarez took over as the new president of Barcelona SC on December 13 after switching positions with Alfaro Moreno, whose four-year term has ended. However, the new board could not be registered after the rejection of the Ministry of Sports.

The government body’s decision to prevent the registration of the list led by Alvarez is based mainly on the fact that there was no electoral process to appoint a new president.

What’s happening at Barcelona SC? Sole candidate in 2005 and 2023: presidential election in the first case and direct appointment in the second case

In 2023, the Electoral Court of the Canarian institution decided to appoint Antonio Alvarez directly as president because he is the only candidate. However, in 2005, Barcelona went through a similar situation where they had only one candidate for the highest title, but unlike this year, there was a vote.

“We need big things, international tournaments,” says Antonio Alvarez at his inauguration as president of Barcelona SC

Another point the Ministry made is that both Alvarez and José Antonio Nogales (Second Vice President) and Francisco Javier López (Treasurer) are listed as leaders of Toreros FC.

One of the statutes in the yellow box indicates that no one can be listed as an active director of another club, which the three leaders of the new board did not comply with.

The Toreadors have a maximum of ten days to resolve the nine objections of the national entity in case it wants to register a new directory. (D)
