Coach Sokolova spoke about problems with skates for figure skaters due to sanctions
Coach Elena Sokolova spoke about problems with equipment among Russian figure skaters. Her words are quoted by RBC.
“The main problem today that has arisen due to sanctions is the inability to quickly purchase figure skating skates,” she said. Sokolova noted that some skates have disappeared from the Russian market; they have to be ordered through local residents in Canada, the USA and Europe. However, according to the trainer, delivery times are constantly increasing.
Sokolova added that there are also problems with the blades. “The manufacturer has stopped producing the blades that we use, English ones. We still had a couple of blades left in stock and additionally ordered the remainder from the manufacturer. We don’t know what will happen next,” she shared.
On March 1, 2022, the International Skating Union banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions under its auspices. Due to sanctions, skaters were unable to take part in the World and European Championships, as well as in other international tournaments.
