Bizkaia-Durango will not compete in 2024 after 21 seasons
Euskaraz irakurri: Bizkaia-Durango taldeak ez du jarraituko 2024an
The team Bizkaia-Durango has confirmed that “it will not take to the roads in 2024” after 21 seasons in the women’s peloton “after confirming that continuity in the UCI Continental category is not possible due to the new minimum budgetary requirements imposed” by the Spanish Cycling Federation.
In its statement, the Basque sports group emphasizes that after two decades, which began in 2003 by winning the Tour de France with Joane Somarriba, they would have “loved to have continued to be part” of the growth of women’s cycling.
The team appreciates the trust of the organizers, the cyclists, technicians and assistants, fans, media and also sponsors and collaborators, “especially the Durango City Council and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, which have given their name to the project during the vast majority of seasons.”
